The kitchen appliances in the new house were very much at the end of their life and causing us high electricity bills.

As usual I shopped around went to DID near Liffey Valley,very small shop not too much choice,went to expert electricial in Naas,their staff are friendly but it is expensive there and the discount they were offering was pretty low.I had a look at powercity.ie then rang them and emailed them my list asking for a best price.
I had seen the fridge and the freezer that I intended to order from here before and tbh once m washing maching and drier could take at least 6/7 kilos and were good and good good reviews I didn't care what they looked like!!
I managed to get about 11% discount,excellent service and free delivery.
I can't compare exact appliances only ones that did the exact same so not exactly comparing like with like but there was about 600 euro between the cheapest and most expensive quotes.

Zavvi sucks

Recently I tried to purchase a dvd boxset from both thehut.co.uk and zavvi.The order went through fine but the next day I got this email -

Maynooth and trains

Although Maynooth station is the worst for accessibility and there are never staff around the station,I am enjoying my new commute.

The people on the train are a lot nicer then what I am used to and Dearbhail and I are always offered seats.

In my 2 weeks commuting 3 days a week with Dearbhail I have been offered more seats then my 9 months pregnant getting the train from Balbriggan.

Hmm now all I need to do is magically switch the stations and their staff...

Amazon lifts bar on Irish shoppers

Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, has lifted most of the delivery restrictions it previously applied to shoppers in Ireland.

Since last week, the company is shipping electronics and a wide variety of other goods to Irish customers for the first time in three years.

This follows a company decision to implement the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive on waste recycling of electronics products by collecting the levy due to the Government here.

An Amazon spokesman confirmed to The Irish Times that the company had decided to comply with the directive so as to make its products available to the widest range of customers.

The company says it will now take back old electrical equipment on a like-for-like basis, free of charge. Irish customers are being advised to bring such used products to one of four recycling centres in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Kilkenny.

The lifting of restrictions applies to goods sold by amazon.co.uk directly but not to third party resellers who use the Amazon website. Previously, amazon.co.uk’s customers in Ireland could purchase only books, music, DVDs and computer games.

However, a restriction on delivery of heavy goods weighing over 30 kg remains in place, and orders for mobile phones and light-bulbs will not be taken from Irish customers either.

The prices on the amazon.co.uk site list British Vat at 15 per cent but Irish customers get charged the Irish rate of 21.5 per cent at checkout.

Amazon stopped delivering electrical goods to Ireland in 2006 after a row over the implementation of the WEEE directive. The company claimed it was being asked to pay WEEE waste tariffs for goods on which the producers had already paid equivalent tariffs.

Some other leading online retailers placed similar restrictions on Irish customers while others freely delivered all products to the Republic. Amazon’s change of heart is likely to prove a major boost for online commerce here, even if its dominance of the market is less marked than before.

The government levy on health Insurance

I wish we had a competent public health care system but,in the absence of one many of us or our employers pay for private health insurance for us.

In November 2008, the Irish Government announced the introduction of a new levy on health insurance with effect from the 1st January 2009.
The levy equates to 160 euro per adult and 53 euro per child.

Currently I am slightly bitter about the difference between Irish and UK prices for baby stuff.
The UK is a lot cheaper but what I didn't know is that we both have Vat rates applying to some nursery items then the standard 21% here and 17.5% in the UK(I think it is 17.5% there)

If your looking for an evening of music in a nice intimate setting around North Dublin then it is well worth visiting The Seamus Ennis Centre.
Every 2nd Sunday there is a slow session and every 2nd one of these is a work shop.
It is good fun and a chance to meet some other musicians.

I also notice that the coffee shop has reopened following refurbishment due a to a fire there, looking forward to visiting for some food now too:)

Water issues Balbriggan

There was no mains water this morning,but it was after 7:00 so this was a little unusual.

The water Dept in Fingal coco got back to me.
There is a burst mains in Balbriggan and they are working on it,there is no time to fix known yet.

Public Transport

Living in Dublin generally sucks but as it is where most of the jobs are it is also where more then 1/4 of the countries population is.

Compared to the rest of the country we have a great public transport system,and really it isn't that bad sometimes but capacity is a huge issue.

I found some interesting webpages about this issue.
My personal grip is the Balbriggan/Drogheda/Dundalk train.

I finally rang the councils water department and asked about the water being switched off at night,they got the local depot to ring me (all within 5 minutes may I add) and this is the current status -

Water is switched off at midnight every night and back on a 6am this is to facilitate the kilsoc reservoir refilling.(I have never heard of it and to the best of my previous knowledge our water came from a reservoir at the bog of the ring,possibley same place?)

They do not know when it is going to go on until but if they did not do it the situation would be worse.

For anyone that knows me you will know one of the things that frustrates me and infuriates me more then most other things is the water supply to my house and my shower of no waterness.
The water pressure situation has improved but Fingal do appear to be switching off the water at night.
Anyway,I finally got a plumber in to take a look and it is not a huge major issue just a colleciton of smaller ones \o/
A pumped electric shower is going to fix the shower issue,cleaning the pipes etc should fix the problem of the tank not refilling and apparently the bit needed to fix the toilets is about 50c, oh how I love the builders and their short cuts.

I may have to have a bbq to celebrate!

Any fog will clear this morning to give another dry day with good spells of sunshine, although the sunshine will be a little bit hazier in northern counties. Highest temperatures 18 to 22C with light winds.

Getting used to living in Bogbriggan is something I hope I am never going to have to do full time,don't get me wrong the town is fine,the people I am not so sure of and slowly but surely we are getting some facilites there,the fact thet they build a load of affordable housing houses at the end of my road and are selling them for 1/2 the market value of ours doesn't even bother me so much.

It is the being able to do nothing about the whole fiasco that bothers me,but commuting as I do and not really being a morning person kinds of limits the ways in which I can channel my frustration and anger,though everyone seems to commute thus maybe why there is a complete lack of community spirit or nice neighbourly cups of tea and chats.

Those who appear to be around the place all day don't appear to be the sort of people that I would like to be sharing my Sat afternoon cup of tea with,they seem to not have a care in the world about anyone or anything.

On Saturday while being lazy and driving ot the shops (they are less then a 5 minute walk)I saw kids lighting a fire in an open area near the educate together school (prefab) in the housing estate,there were some small kids and some what initially appeared ot be teenagers,I slowed down and drove by them and noticed that some of them looked my age,the fire wasn't huge but was inside what appeared to be a camp that kids had built so was at that stage flames enclosed in wood.

I drove on to the shops as I decided it might be a bit easier then phoning the gardai rather then calling to the Garda station,there are often long queues there.

I saw these young people heading in to abrakebabra and heard bits of their chat,one of them saying "aww me head lighting that fire gave me a headache" others were hanging around outside the pub laughing and giggling about the fire.

I rang the gardaí and told them about the fire due to the high number of young kids in the housing estates,they didn't sound too suprised tbh.

I then began to wonder were the kids there with them theire kids?I would suspect so...are we the tax payers paying for them to live in the same places as us and destroy it for everyone else?

Driving home I stopped for a chat with the firemen,it didn't suprise them at all that it wasn't kids that did it and said it wasn't unusual,they was probably drink and drugs involved.

In other news,The simpsons movie is great:)a bit short but well worth seeing and I wanna pet spider pig!!and this time there were no kids bothering us in the cinema,I did not nearly freeze there and it was quite an enjoyable experinece.

This time next month exams will be over and I will be free:)
But despite my weekends of college and stuff I have actaully managed to have one or 2 little adventures;)

Back in Feb(10th and 11th) I had the pleasure of a weekend in Paris at http://www.terena.org/activities/earnest/ws-schools/ I found it interesting too see the elvels of funding in other coutries for ICT and also their levels of commtment to it and as always it was nice to meet people who do my jobs in a different country:)

The following weekend it was down to UL for skycon -

I even managed to give a talk but it is far too embarassing and a first attempt so it ain't online:)
The weekend was really great,met alot of new and interesting people and got to spend time with some great people ,oh yes and the food was lovely:)

So as if that wasn't enough on the 24th (yes the next weekend again!) I went on a weeks holidays to Hammamet in Tunisia.
It was quite and the weather wasn't the best but I enjoyed the relaxation and the nice indoor swimming pool,and the cocktails especially the cocktails mmmmmmm:)
The hotel and apt complex is lovely with pretty gardens and some spa facilitys and a private beach.By choice we stayed in the apts,a whole tenner more expensvie!! but I prefer the freedom:)
We visited Tunis which was jsut like any other industrial city,nothing special and then went to visit Carthage and the Roman ruins.It was all really pretty:)

So I came back from Tunisia happy and rested but of course it didn't all end here:)
Went back to work on the Monday worked 3 days and it was off to Germany on the bestest roadtrip ever:)

Our hired passat estate turned in to a nissan pathfinder huuggee monster car!! but considering the amount of shoes and clothes some people brought it was just as well!
The car also had build in gps which was really amazing and gave perfect directions so we didn't get lost at all:)
From Germany we drove up to Belgium for 3 nights,and stayed in a holiday resort in a lovely house with an open fire and lots of trees and woodland and red squirrels outside,It was lots of fun between having the big car with the gps,the squirrels,the petting zoo with the prettiest cow ever!the really cool swimming pools and of course the company:)

After that it was time to return to reality and work and college but sure it had to happen at some stage sooo role on the summer :)

College started last night,I think I might enjoy it and hopefully pass or else I have to emmigrate and go in to hiding for the rest of my life,which although does sound really appealing isn't exactly practical.

It is sort of daunting,but I suppose when you have been a 1st year as many times as me and generally suck at stuff it is understandable.

My kitchen floor has tiles,a few left to go down and the grouting but it looks like it maybe be finished in 2006

All my optimism for getting my degree and going far far away is hopefully warranted:)

Last week there was a conversation about something can't remember exactly what but it made me realise I am now working full time continuously for over 5 1/2 years:(

This makes me feel old and like I have accomplished absolutely nothing,but at least I have a nice job on twice the money that I had then:)

On the bright side I collected my student id today and out induction meeting is on Thursday,so finger crossed as looking forward to life as a post grad and getting a degree finally is whats keeping me going at the moment.

I managed to sleep for most of the weekend,so it was completely unproductive but it is the last weekend I have nothing on for a long time(hopefully).

Got some dvds on Sat night - Rumour has it and The weatherman.

The first was funny,the second although not a bad film was highly depressing.

I am currently trying to improve my written irish which is really far far worse then it should be,my spoken is bad enough but thankfully better then the average persons.

Wasn't a bad weekend, quite relaxing really.

On Saturday I decided to go explore Balbriggan,which as you can guess was pretty unexciting but it had to be done and at least I got about 8 miles of walking done:)
Sunday was the club races,it was fun I was standing at Wrens nest waist deep in water watching the the carnage and doing a bit of rope throwing and pulling boats in, I think only 2 of the canadians made it down without the occupants going for a swim,alot of the k1s also went over and many playboats it was great fun:)
As usual for most days I am completely wrecked and my stupid floor still isn't tiled but hopefully it will happen at some stage this year *fingers crossed*

The bank holiday weekend was great:)
Set off to Doolin on Thursday,with my lovely tent and the bike rack on the car!
Visited lisdonvarna,the cliffs of moher,Inis Sheer/Oirr,limerick briefly,ennistymon for the bank machine and I can't really remember where else but it was great fun:) Didn't make it out on the water tohugh as the seaon has only 1/2 started.

Today starts my new healthier lifestyle which involves exercise!!

Today was the first day of proper commuting:/
Set the alarm for 6:30 and slept until 7 took me 17 minutes to walk the 1.6miles to the train and I got a seat on it so the best word to describe it all is wonderfuil!
It better last now:/

Had the annual outing to Aladdin last night,it was brilliant as always with jokes for the adults and the kids:)

Hope you all had a great time over the holidays and the stress of being back in work this week hasn't been too much:)

I finally got the keys to my house on the 16th of December:)got electricity a few days later and jsut before I froze my gas got turned on:) yaay
People have been coming and gonig on the road for a while but no noe has actually moved in yet so nothing to report on the neighbours yet!
Got my kitchen appliances and stuff in before christmas,had managed to buy the wrong size oven thoguh so currently it makes a great table in the kitchen,tiles still are not down either so house is horribley dusty but my wooden floors look pretty as does my lovely new bed and lockers:)

I discovered Drogheda is only a few minutes away on the back roads and there is a place that sells petrol for 99.9l on the way to it,there is no proper cinema there though which totally sucks:(

Antonia sent me pictures of her, Dave and the baby,she looks amazing as always:)and Alannah is sooo cute.

Went to Trocadero witht he IBB boys alst night:)
was so nice to see them and the food as always was also lovely:)
House got snagged monday and snag list returned to builders today (human lag:( ) they said 6 working days to complete it as there are 6 houses ahead of me:( so much for me being a priority etc grr
Ah well once I have my house and electricity before the crimmie holidays,if not I will have the hard decision of where to go on holidays...possibley geneva:)

It is begining to look like my house will never be finished and I mightn't have it for Christmas:( all the fun has worn off:(
I jsut want it finished and in my name and have gone past caring about anyhting other then having a floor in it,shooping for electricial appliances frustrated me tot he extent I didn't want to do ti anymore:( like do I buy gray which looks nice of white that is cheaper? do I buy a washer drier in one as I have little space or 2 separate,do I buy the nice huggee fridge freezer I want or a cheaper not nice one?makes my brain fry and my heart sink:(
3 weeks ago I was at my house and it has been left unlocked which is weird because all the other houses were locked.
I went out twice that weekend and even brought Trish and Tony with a measuring tape and the house was most definately finished,next day rang the site who also told me my house was finished but I could not snag until the road was due to health and safety and knowing the state of the road I understood so when he said 2 weeks I believed him and was happy.
Rang today to be told oh yeah that will be another 2-3 weeks:(( It was been 3 weeks since July I wouldn't mind so much but I need somewhere to live for christmas thats mine due to 9 days off work:(
The footpaths are in and the parking space outside my front door is too:)the parking outsdie my back garden has been there for ages all finished :)
To top it all off the couch I wanted is out of stock and will never be back and the only reason i did not buy it was due to Trish nearly having a heart attack when i said I was getting a futon and trying to convince me they are crap but when shown a picture she thought it was great:((

I did buy my bed:) not the nicest one in the world but it is quite pretty and was on sale,and also got my lovely bedside lockers/small chest of drawers in a sale saved a couple of 100 euro and got some nice stuff:)

Another whole weekend with out work:)) it was great.

Went down to Limerick on Fridays after work to the skynet talks Thomas from google and Dave and Owen from here were giving talks.
Thomas was brave enough to accept my offer of a lift so also had company for the journey.
The evening was quite enjoyable,I didn't stay too late in UL due to wanting to get back to my aunts before it was too late,that didn't happen either though! Met my cousin and went ofr a few drinks got home ot Kathleens and was up chatting with her until after 4am!
Saturday I went to Waterford which was nice as I hadn't been downt here in so long and then Sunday to carlow where I saw pride and prejudice which suprised me alot.

Seen quite a few films in the last 2 weeks

Wallace and Gromit - it rocks
Pride and prejudice - not bad at all
Serenity - it rocks too

Back reading again it is good,and makes the dart journeys fly in the morning

My cousin got engaged after 8 years and is getting married in June yaaaay Sarah and I are bridesmaids and I can't wait:) pretty dresses hen parties etc it will be funny with both of them being really girlie but I can't wait:)
I hear johns(groom) brothers,the best man and grooms man are both single and hot which is good too;)

My stupid house still is not finished but I live in hope that at some stage the eternal 4 weeks will turn in to an actual 4 weeks and my house will be finished:)

We went out on Saturday night to celelbrate the engagement,it was a really good night can't believe people actually wanted to go to coppers though:/ it was every bit as bad as I expected:/ a meat mart but I did discover that there were country folk in our group that had met there many moons ago and were no married. *shudders*

Have to hand in my first college assignment soon and unfortunately it isn't one just telling me to write about something no:( it is note taking and all that (rubbish) umm really helpfuil stuff u need to be good at for uni ah someday I will learn:) on the brightside the rest of my assesments look alot more exciting and the fact that so much happens every day that is relevent is great too.

Holidays:) and drinkin on school nights:(

Torture

The legal torture that was the leaving cert still haunts me to this day:( the sleepness nights the reoccuring nightmares , I seriously thought they would have ended after a year or two.
This morning I got the Dart to work and coming out of the station I was reminded the only other times I had ever been there were when I was in 5th/6th year gonig to the rds for the expos.exhibitions and the higher options and fas days.
It reminded me of a time when the world was a place of dreams ,we couldn't wait for the future and off course we were all gonig to go pursue our dreams and there was no reasons that they would not come through..
Six years on the world hasn't really turned out the way we planned,thousands of kids still have to go through the mental torture and abuse and stress to gain a university/college place not always to follow their dreams but to follow the dreams of those that have gone before them and to provide a better future for those that will come next.

Rang the electrician,the foreman and the estate agent about my house today.
They still have no idea when it will be finished but if I want extra sockets I need someone to go out there tomorrow to show him where and I can not jsut tell him:( and have to pay there and then 40/50 yoyo extra per plug.
I do not mind that bit it is fine but how on earth do they expect people to be able to drop everything and go over? and the estate agent said no measurments available I have to go measure the house for floors and tiles etc myself:(
ah well:/
I just want it to be finished so I can move in and have my own ickkle house with my own garden,
anyway it is only running about 3 weeks late now but I think it was sheer optimism that made them say the middle of July!!
The estate agent will know on Thursday the expected completion date so fingers crossed for the start of october and fingers crossed I get someone in to the house before the end of this month so it is all sorted:) and I can try save some money too:)

Everybody seems to be getting so old,marriage and kids @22/23:(

Bernie had her baby last week,a little 3lb healthy boy.

Antonia is still in oz,loves it and is due in October and she also got engaged at the weekend:)) so happy for her as life is working out how she hoped:)) I really hope she moves back to Ireland sometime so I can meet her fiancee and see her baby.

Nothing too exciting happened over the weekend drank beer and played boardsgames on sunday night and went to a bbq in Trishs on monday.

Apparently a months rain is going to fall over the next 24 hours,now considering it rains the majority of the time ,I think we are gonig to have a very flooded city by the end of the day:(

Ah well at elast I live near enough to work to be able to get home this time,hopefully:)

Still trying to decide what I wanna do when I grow up and waiting to hear if I have been accepted to the college course I applied to for September,what I wanna do and what I end up doing will be 2 totally different things and hopefully I manage to get thru college and get a nice degree but I have my doubhts:(

Finally everyhting is sorted with the house and hopefully I can move in mid August yaaaayyyyy at last one less thing to worry about:))

Pc world are evil and their assistant manager there on Thursday night was the rudest most unhelpfuil person on this planet so I am still laptopless:((( but hopefully come the weekend I can have a nice enw shiny one and finally have interweb at home again :)
